WEST CHESTER, PA – West Chester University's women's swimming & diving team opens their 2026-2027 campaigns on the road this weekend with a tri-meet in New Haven, Conn., against Southern Connecticut State and University of Bridgeport. The meet gets underway at 12 p.m. inside the Hutchinson Natatorium.
- The women's team is much younger than its men's counterpart this winter. Head coach Steve Mazurek has brought in 10 freshmen to replenish and reload for the conference meet at the end of the year. Addyson Despeaux (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) is one of those newcomers. Mazurek described her as the backstroker that he has been looking for for quite some time. Kara Walters (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville) and Allison Schiavo (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) bring a lot of promise to the women's lineup as well. Kayla Reasons (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) is another freshman who Mazurek says has been working hard in the backstroke in the preseason.
- Sophomore Greta Saville (Mordialloc, Australia) is a returning three-time individual champion and a champion on one relay. She should score a lot of points once again for the Golden Rams' ladies. She has just gotten better since last winter. Sophomore Michalina Jasinska (Warsaw, Poland) was a 300-point scorer for the Golden Rams at last year's conference meet.
- Though Pennsylvania still dominates the women's roster with 16 swimmers hailing from the Commonwealth, Mazurek has reached out across the country to fill in his women's squad this year with newcomers from Ohio, Florida and Texas.
- An experienced diving group should also help this winter. Alicia McHugh (Jenkintown, Pa./Abington) and Kacey Lenz (Swarthmore, Pa./Ridley) are both four-year members of the women's diving team. Sophomore Delany Behl (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) also returns to the boards.
