Current Hall of Fame Members
When West Chester University stepped out of the 20th Century and into the 21st Century, it embarked on a mission to bring one unifying athletics hall of fame to campus, where all of West Chester's storied heritage would live in the annals of college athletics. That mission came to fruition in October 2000 when the university inducted its very first class.
"This is a culmination of a shared vision by many individuals connected with our athletic heritage,” West Chester University then-director of athletics Dr. Edward Matejkovic stated at the initial induction ceremonies on October 1, 2000. The vision was meant to be lasting.
Golden Rams Nation had never before been bereft of one single unifying hall of fame. On the contrary, there were five hall of fame organizations in existence that operated independently before 2000. The oldest and most prominent was certainly the
Killinger Foundation Football Hall of Fame administered by the W. Glenn Killinger Football Scholarship Foundation.
Still in existence today, the Killinger Foundation inducts outstanding former Golden Rams players and coaches into the WCU Football Hall of Fame at its annual banquet each May. The heavily attended event draws Golden Rams football players from a wide array of generations. There are over 150 inductees in the WCU Football Hall of Fame.
Also still in operation, the Emil Messikomer Hall of Fame has inducted over 75 former men’s basketball players at its annual event each spring. Like the Killinger Foundation Hall of Fame, former men’s hardwood players earn their way into the WCU Athletic Hall of Fame through the Messikomer Foundation’s annual induction ceremony each April.
With the advent of the WCU Athletic Hall of Fame, the West Chester University Baseball Hall of Fame, WCU Women’s Athletic Hall of Fame and the WCU Wrestling Hall of Fame officially ceased independent operation. All members of these three hall of fames were unified and welcomed as part of the initial class of the West Chester Athletics Hall of Fame on October 1, 2000.
PURPOSE
The purpose of the West Chester University Athletics Hall of Fame is to honor the athletes, coaches, administrators and others, who have brought distinction to West Chester athletics over its many years of existence. Those individual achievements deemed worthy of admittance, based on the established criteria, will be formally recognized with displays in Hollinger Field House.
