Home to WCU Women's Gymnastics, the WCU Athletic Office and most varsity team locker rooms
Built in 1970, this large building features five full-size multi-purpose gymnasiums, one fully equipped gymnastics gym, nine team locker rooms in all, a strength and cardio training facility, a Human Performance Laboratory, a Nutrition Laboratory, an Environmental Laboratory, computer rooms for Health Science students, sports medicine’s athletic training rooms equipped with state-of-the-art Cyber equipment, 17 classrooms, and three outdoor Adventure Education Facilities. The building is also home to the West Chester University Athletic Offices. Athletics shares the Health Science Center with the Kinesiology and Nursing Departments.
The Sturzebecker Health Science Center is home to West Chester University’s women’s gymnastics team and has hosted the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships on multiple occasions. The Golden Rams’ gymnasts are perennial conference title contenders, who regularly send upwards of a dozen competitors to nationals, if not qualifying the entire squad for the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships.
Sturzebecker’s multi-purpose gymnasiums, centered in the middle of the building, host a plethora of AAU boy’s and girls basketball tournaments as well as summer camps. The gyms also host field hockey indoor camps, clinics and showcases, and was recently equipped to handle volleyball tournaments. The facility functions as the primary venue for fund-raising activities affecting eight of the varsity programs at the University.
