Maddy Evans head shot

Maddy Evans

Maddy Evans enters her fifth year as West Chester University's women's soccer coach, assisting head coach Betty Ann Kempf Townsley in all aspects of training. She came on board shortly before the 2017 Fall season and has helped the Golden Rams to an NCAA Tournament bid in each of her first three campaigns.

The former professional women's soccer player has been a welcomed addition to the West Chester University coaching staff. Evans and the Golden Rams reached the Atlantic Region final in the Fall of 2019 before falling to top-seeded Bloomsburg in the Championship game.

Evans, who is a Philadelphia native and graduate of Penn State, retired from professional soccer where she played for five seasons in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) with the Pride and the Boston Breakers. Evans was in her fifth season as a professional women's soccer player when she decided to accept Coach Kempf Townsley's offer. Evans played the last two years with the Pride, after being the ninth overall selection in the NWSL Expansion Draft. She played her first three pro seasons with the Boston Breakers. Evans made 62 professional appearances and 35 starts, including her season in Australia with Brisbane.

Evans was a four-year letter winner for the Nittany Lions from 2009-2012, serving as team captain her senior year and leading Penn State to the College Cup Final. She scored 11 goals and assisted on nine others. She was named All-Big Ten second team that year as well.

Prior to coaching at West Chester, Evans served as the first-assistant coach at MIT in 2014 and a Graduate Assistant for Concordia University Chicago Women’s Soccer in 2015 and 2016.

In addition to Evans’ current role, she coordinates and facilitates leadership development programs and workshops for all WCU student-athletes through the WCU Athletics Department’s Michael Horrocks Leadership Institute. She also teaches HEA208: Leadership and Life Skills for Student-Athletes in WCU’s College of Health Sciences.
