James Zuhlke is in his 18th season at West Chester University (Pa.), where he serves as Sports Information Director and a senior member of the athletic department's staff. A veteran of the collegiate media relations field with 26 years of experience, Zuhlke oversees communications and brand identity for WCU’s 24 NCAA Division II varsity programs—one of the largest athletic departments in the country.
In his role, Zuhlke leads a staff that includes a full-time assistant, two graduate assistants, and multiple student interns each semester. His responsibilities extend beyond traditional sports information duties; he coordinates the West Chester University Athletics Hall of Fame selection and induction ceremony, serves on the University’s Crisis Management Team, and previously contributed to the Legacy of Leadership Committee within the Division of Student Affairs.
Zuhlke has played an integral role in shaping the success and visibility of Golden Rams Athletics during a period of sustained excellence. Under his tenure, West Chester has consistently ranked among the top programs in the Learfield/NACDA Director’s Cup standings, with four Top-12 national finishes, and has captured the prestigious F. Eugene Dixon Trophy five times in a seven-year span as the PSAC’s top athletic program.
Throughout his time at WCU, Zuhlke has provided media relations support for numerous PSAC Championships and NCAA Tournament events, covering a wide range of high-achieving student-athletes, including Olympic Trials qualifiers, NCAA national champions, and finalists for top national awards like the Harlon Hill, Tino Martinez, and Tewaaraton.
Before arriving at West Chester, Zuhlke spent seven years at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, following earlier stints at Sacred Heart University and SUNY-Cortland. A native of Central New York, Zuhlke earned his first bachelor’s degree from Utica College of Syracuse University in 1995 and a second from SUNY College at Cortland in 1999, where he began his career in athletic communications as a student volunteer.
Now a long-standing figure in Pennsylvania collegiate athletics, Zuhlke brings leadership, experience, and an unwavering commitment to promoting the achievements of West Chester University’s student-athletes.
Zuhlke and his wife, Danah Allen, reside in Exton, Pa., with their daughter, Madeline.
