Georgia Wright played a significant role in West Chester’s ability to win it 11th consecutive PSAC Championship with a conference record 1,817 total points this weekend.
Wright was named the swimmer of the meet at the conclusion of the championships.
On the first day of competition, the freshman won her first conference title with a winning time of 9:54.86 that broke the PSAC record held by senior teammate Tess Hayward by four seconds in the 1000-yard freestyle. It also marked an NCAA automatic qualifying time. Day two consisted of Wright helping out the 400 medley relay team claim the top spot with a time of 3:49.74.
The third day resulted in Wright winning the 500 free in 4:52.61, setting a meet record that had stood since 2005 in the process. She was one of four Golden Rams in the finals of that event. Additionally, she helped the 800 free relay team pick up the win to end the final event of the night. She won the 1650-yard freestyle and the 200 backstroke on Sunday, adding those titles to her previous triumphs in the 1000 and 500 free. Her victory in the 1650 was also a PSAC record. Wright shaved nearly six seconds off the PSAC mark in the 1650 free. Wright's time of 16 minutes, 37.21 seconds automatically qualifies her for the NCAA Division II Women's Swimming Championships next month in Alabama.
