WEST CHESTER, PA - West Chester University has added seven more coaches to its staff for the 2006-007 campaign.
Former LIU-C.W. Post head womens soccer coach Gerry Lucey has taken over the womens soccer program at WCU, while former standout Golden Ram track and field competitor Jason Kilgore has accepted the newly created position of head womens cross country, indoor track and track & field head coach. Lucey replaces Tara Koleski who accepted the head coaching position at Division I UMBC during the summer.
Also arriving on the WCU campus is new head mens golf coach Bill Payne, assistant field hockey coach Carrie Hanshue, assistant mens soccer coach Steven Blumenthal and assistant football coaches Brandon Noble and Jim Brazill.
Lucey joined the squad just before camp opened but has already had an impact with the Golden Rams. He led West Chester to a 6-0 victory over Mansfield on August 25 and now has a career record of 17-5-1.
Lucey arrived at WCU from the University of Tampa where he had served as the assistant womens coach since 2004. He owns a USSF A Coaching License - the highest level available in the United States - and played professionally for seven years in the New York Metropolitan Area.
While at Tampa, his team reached the round of 16 at the NCAA Division II Championships in 2004 and 2005; captured the Sunshine State Conference regular-season crown in 2005; and won the leagues tournament title in 2004.
Before heading to Tampa, Lucey served as the head coach of the C.W. Post womens program (1999-2000) and was the assistant coach for both the mens and womens programs from 1994-99. He was named the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference Womens Coach of the Year in 2000 after taking over the programs reins for the final few games of 1999.
During his tenure in the NYCAC as both a mens and womens coach, Luceys teams registered some amazing statistics.
His teams posted a 54-23-3 combined record, won four NYCAC titles, earned three NCAA Division II Playoff berths, reached the NCAA II quarterfinals once and the round of 16 twice, unrolled a 14-game winning streak and claimed 25 All-NYCAC selections.
Lucey played professionally from 1994-2000 with the NY/NJ Metrostars (MLS), Long Island Roughriders (USL A League), New Jersey Imperials (USL Division I) and New York Fever (USL Division 1).
As an undergraduate, Lucey competed for C.W. Post from 1991-93, earning NYCAC Player of the Year honors and NSCAA All-American accolades in 1993. He was the NYCAC Rookie of the year in 1990 while playing for NYIT, and he earned All-NYCAC and All-Region honors during each of his four years in the conference.
A native of Dublin, Ireland, Lucey is a 1994 graduate of C.W. Post with a degree in business. He also earned his masters degree in business administration from C.W. Post in 2000.

He also captured the highly-competitive Edgmont Country Club Amateur Open Championship and missed qualifying for the Senior U.S. Open by one stroke after firing a round of 73.
Kilgore begins his first season as the head coach of the womens cross country and track and field programs.
While overseeing the development of the entire womens program, Kilgore will continue to work with the mens and womens sprinters, jumpers, hurdlers and combined event athletes.
Kilgore spent the last two seasons assisting both the men and womens programs, working with the sprinters, jumpers, hurdlers and combined event athletes. In his two seasons as an assistant, he coached over 70 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying athletes, 10 NCAA Division II provisional qualifiers, 27 All-PSAC selections, 11 school record-holders, four PSAC Champions and two PSAC Championship record-holders.
