WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Rita Alton and Sarah Oswald scored for West Chester in a 2-0 win over visiting Mansfield in a PSAC East women's soccer match at the soccer fields at West Chester University Saturday afternoon.
Rita Alton scored the go ahead goal with a little over six minutes left to go in the first half to score the Rams go-ahead goal. Alton headed the ball off of a cross from Sarah Oswald. The goal proved to be all the Rams needed to win.The Golden Rams outshot the Mountaineers 13 to 7. Hilary Smart made just two saves for West Chester. Mansfield’s Justine Segear made four saves for the Mountaineers.
West Chester also had four corners opposed to Mansfield’s one corner which took place in the second half. It was a typical PSAC rivalry with each team recording many fouls.
Oswald added another West Chester goal with 4:57 left in the second half to give the Rams some insurance. Cindi Nickels assisted Oswald with the goal.
West Chester will have the next couple of days off while they prepare for a non conference league game against near by Holy Family. The game will be away on Wednesday starting at 4:00PM.
