5 Things to Know: Women's Soccer to Host Seton Hill in PSAC Quarterfinal Clash on Tuesday

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The 10th-ranked West Chester University women's soccer team (13-2-1, 11-2-1) is preparing to return to action on Tuesday afternoon in a PSAC Quarterfinal clash with Seton Hill (7-6-5, 7-4-5) beginning at 1 p.m. on Rockwell Field. The Golden Rams enter the PSAC Tournament as the second seed in the PSAC East, while Seton Hill is the third seed. Tuesday's clash will be the only game the Golden Rams have the opportunity to host, as PSAC Championship weekend, which is scheduled to begin on Friday morning, is slated to be hosted in the PSAC West this season. If all four remaining PSAC West teams are eliminated on Tuesday, PSAC East Regular Season Champion Kutztown would host Championship weekend.

Five Things to Know
  1. West Chester enters the PSAC Tournament coming off a hard-fought one-goal loss to Kutztown in the regular-season finale on Rockwell Field last Wednesday. West Chester controlled play for much of the afternoon and ended the game with a 23-13 lead in shots, a 9-6 lead in shots on goal, and a 6-1 lead in corners, but Kutztown freshman Carly Louey scored the lone goal of the match in the 81st minute to lift the fourth-ranked Golden Bears to the victory.
  2. Kianna Barber (Browns Mills, N.J./BCIT) finished the regular season leading West Chester in scoring with seven goals and seven assists for 21 points, while Jordan Nguyen (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Central) chipped in seven goals and two assists for 16 points. Seniors Adriana Ryder (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) and Lauren Reimold (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) are third and fourth on the team in scoring with five goals and five assists for 15 points and four goals and two assists for 10 points. Four of Ryder's five goals this season have been game-winners. In goal, Grace Keen (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) is 13-2-1 with a 0.35 goals-against average and a hand in 10 shutouts, including seven solo shutouts, which allowed her to tie the career shutout record in the win over Shippensburg in late October. Keen is second all-time in career wins with 55 and just six away from matching the record, while her next shutout will give her the career shutout record with 36.
  3. Seton Hill enters play on Thursday at 7-6-5 on the year and 7-4-5 in league action after finishing the season with a 4-0 win over Lock Haven at home last Wednesday afternoon. The Griffins have struggled away from home this season, going 0-3-5 on the road, including a 4-0 loss at Slippery Rock on October 14 and a scoreless draw at Edinboro on October 24. Offensively, Leah Kessler and Maddie Teakle are tied for first on the team in scoring with eight points each, as Kessler has a team-best three goals and two assists, while Teakle has two goals and a team-best four assists. In goal, Rhys Caplinger is 7-6-5 with a 1.06 goals-against average and a hand in eight shutouts.
  4. After its one-goal loss to Kutztown in the regular season finale, West Chester finds itself third in the latest NCAA Power Index (NPI) rankings with an NPI of 59.692, trailing Kutztown (61.920) and Fairmont State (59.975). If the Golden Rams can make another PSAC Tournament run and return to Championship Weekend for the fourth time in the last five seasons, West Chester will still have a chance to climb into the top two spots in the Atlantic Region, which would grant the Golden Rams hosting rights for the opening weekend of the Atlantic Region Tournament on November 13-15.
  5. West Chester is 5-1-0 against Seton Hill since 2013, with the most recent meeting being a 1-0 victory over the Griffins in September 2018, which helped the Golden Rams avoid a losing streak to the Griffins after falling to Seton Hill by a 1-0 final in 2017. West Chester is 3-0 against Seton Hill in West Chester, outscoring the Griffins 6-2 in those three meetings since 2013.
With a Win

With a win over Seton Hill on Tuesday, West Chester will return to the PSAC Semifinals against the winner of #4E Millersville/#1W Slippery Rock at the home of the highest remaining PSAC West seed or PSAC East Regular Season Champion Kutztown if all PSAC West teams are eliminated in the Quarterfinals.
