WEST CHESTER, Pa.
- West Chester University celebrates Senior Day this Saturday when cross-town rival Cheyney comes calling to Farrell Stadium at 1 p.m. The Golden Rams are one win away from a showdown next weekend with undefeated and No. 6 Bloomsburg on the road for the right to play in the 2008 PSAC championship game. Cheyney is hoping to rain on that parade this afternoon and serve up one of the biggest upsets in the country.

A win today would mark the first time since 2005 that West Chester completed its home slate undefeated. It would also represent the third time in head coach Bill Zwaan’s six-year tenure at the school that the Golden Rams went unbeaten on home turf. The Rams are 25-4 at Farrell Stadium under Zwaan.

West Chester, who jumped back into the national rankings in both polls this week, brings a six-game win streak on the season and a 16-game winning streak over Cheyney in the all-time series into today’s tilt. The Golden Rams hold a 39-2-1 advantage in the overall series.

However, one of Cheyney’s wins (1991) came after-the-fact when West Chester had to forfeit the contest due to the inadvertent use of an ineligible player. Cheyney has not beaten West Chester on the field since 1979 – a string of 27 straight games. The two schools played to a 24-24 tie in 1980.

West Chester has manhandled rival Cheyney in the history between the two institutions. The Golden Rams have shutout the Wolves 13 times and scored better than 50 points 18 times, including posting a school-record 85 points on the scoreboard the first time the two teams met in 1958. Last year’s 35-13 win by the Golden Rams ended a string of six straight years in which West Chester put up better than 50 points in the tilt.

The Golden Rams are ranked sixth in the latest Super One Region poll released earlier this week. West Chester is attempting to qualify for its fifth straight NCAA postseason.
