Second-Half Shooting Effort Helps West Chester Prevail, 83-63

WEST CHESTER, Pa.
- Janelle Garber scored 22 points and Dana Weems added 18 as West Chester put four players in double figures in an 83-63 women's basketball non-league victory over visiting Wilmington (Del.) University Tuesday evening at Hollinger Field House.
 
The Golden Rams (4-1) outscored the Wildcats (2-1) 47-32 in the second half to pull away from a determined Wilmington squad that trailed by just five points at halftime.
 
West Chester came out of the gates on fire, running out to a 20-8 lead. However, Wilmington fought its way back into the contest, eventually taking the lead 27-26.
 
The Golden Rams shot 64.3 percent from the field in the second half (18-for-28) to build its insurmountable advantage over the final 20 minutes.
 
Amelia Simmons scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Wilmington. Kim Parker added 17 in the losing effort. Her day included a 10-for-13 performance from the foul line.
 
West Chester pulled off 17 steals with Dana Weems leading the team with five. Allison Hostetter and Megan Stewart each stole four passes.
 
The Golden Rams will be back in action one week from Friday when they host the Carol Eckman Memorial Tournament. Columbia Union, Lincoln and Millersville will all be in town for that two-day event.
