No. 6 Delaware Ties Up No. 23 West Chester, 48-20

NEWARK, Del.
- West Chester mustered just 16 yards rushing and eight first downs as No. 6 Delaware manhandled the 23-ranked Golden Rams en route to a 48-20 thumping Saturday night at Delaware Stadium in a cross-divisional meeting.

West Chester (1-2) pulled within eight early in the second quarter when Steve Miller caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Joe Wright. However, Delaware answered with a 62-yard TD run on the first play from scrimmage following Miller's score that sparked a 27-point run by the host Blue Hens.

Delaware (1-1), one of the top progams in Division I's Football Championship Series, extended its winning streak over West Chester to 15 straight, tying the longest win streak by either side in this long regional rivalry. The Blue Hens lead the all-time series 43-6-2.

Wright, a Delaware native, finished the day 11 of 23 for 163 yards and a touchdown. Jared Jorgensen came on in the third quarter and was 4-for-8 for 77 yards and his first two career TD passes. Darryl Canty caught a career-high 55-yard TD strike from Jorgensen with 12:19 left in the game. Jorgensen later hooked up with Andrew Taylor for a 4-yard touchdown pass.

The Blue Hens racked up 497 yards of total offense.

West Chester senior wide receiver Mike Washington was held in check with just one reception for 0 yards. His catch extended his consecutive string of games with at least one reception to 40 straight. 

West Chester returns to action next Saturday when the Golden Rams host Millersville in the PSAC East opener for both schools. Kickoff at Farrell Stadium is set for 6 p.m.
