KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Michelle Powers led West Chester with 18 kills as the Golden Rams topped Kutztown on the road in a PSAC East women's volleyball showdown Tuesday evening.
West Chester (10-2, 3-0 PSAC East) remained unbeaten in league play with the hard-fought victory over the Bears to stay one-half game ahead of Lock Haven, who beat Shippensburg, in the standings. The Rams won by scores of 25-19, 15-25, 29-27 and 25-13.
Game three was the pivotal set of the match. West Chester trailed 18-12 at one point, and battled back to a 20-15 deficit, before mounting its comeback. Kutztown led 27-26 late in that set when West Chester rattled off three straight points to close out the set and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
The host Bears never recovered from that emotional momentum shift, and West Chester methodically dispatched Kutztown 25-13 in the fourth and deciding set.
Lisa Yeasted registered 35 assists and seven kills for the Golden Rams. Kayla Beck and Lisa Campbell each recorded 20 digs.
West Chester is off until Thursday night when the Rams travel to Goldey Beacom for a non-conference tilt. The Golden Rams have won four straight matches, taking 12 of their last 13 sets in the process.
