KUTZTOWN, Pa.
– Quarterback Joe Wright threw for a career-high 385 yards and tied a school record with six touchdown passes while wide receiver Mike Washington broke the school record for career TD receptions as West Chester cruised to a 49-8 victory on the road over Kutztown in a PSAC East battle Saturday afternoon at University Field.

One week after D’Andre Webb set a new school record for rushing with 306 yards, it was the quarterback and the passing game’s turn to shine. Wright finished 19 of 27 for 385 yards, which ranks eighth all-time in a single game at WCU, as the Golden Rams (3-2, 2-0 PSAC East) amassed 405 passing yards and a grand total of 479 yards of total offense in the win over the Golden Bears (1-4, 0-2).

Wright hit Steven Miller on a 24-yard scoring strike 4:26 into the contest and then hooked up with Washington on a 57-yard score four minutes later that extended West Chester’s lead to 14-3 at the end of one quarter of play.

Travis Ford-Bey then picked off a Shane Martin pass on the first play of the second quarter and rumbled 26 yards to paydirt to push the lead to 21-3. After Kutztown kicked another field goal when its second trip into the red zone stalled, Washington caught a 5-yard pass from Wright with one second left on the clock before halftime to send the Rams into the locker room with a commanding 28-3 advantage.

Ryan Paulson caught two TD passes in the third quarter, three minutes apart, as West Chester increased its lead to 42-6. Paulson’s first TD went for 43 yards while his second went for 47. Miller picked up his second TD catch of the game with 1:32 left in the third quarter on a 32-yard hookup with Wright.

West Chester did not commit a turnover and its defense did not allow a touchdown while Kutztown coughed up three turnovers and gained just 198 yards of total offense in the home loss. The Bears mustered just a pair of field goals from kicker Matt Dineen and a team safety at the end of the contest.

Washington, Miller and Paulson each caught a pair of touchdown tosses from Wright. Washington’s two scores gives him 49 TD catches in his illustrious career and 300 career points, which is second all-time at West Chester University.

Freshman RB Jackson Fagan rushed for 56 yards on 16 carries to lead West Chester’s ground game that managed just 74 yards rushing.
