CHEYNEY, Pa. – Ralph Hegamin and Kehinde Roberts each scored 20 points and Kenneth St. George added 18 as visiting West Chester remained unbeaten in league play with a come-from-behind 65-52 victory over rival Cheyney in a PSAC East men’s basketball contest Wednesday evening.
West Chester (12-4, 3-0 PSAC East) equaled both its overall win total and its league wins from a year ago while earning its first win over Cheyney (9-5, 2-1) since 2006-07.
St. George nailed a 3-pointer with 9:37 left in the game to give West Chester the lead for good at 45-43. That 3-ball ended a 23-12 run by the Golden Rams that helped erase a nine-point lead by the host Wolves late in the first half.
That spurt was followed by a scoreless spell from Cheyney that lasted 6:42 and enabled the Golden Rams to increase its advantage to 54-43.
Roberts made good on a pair of 3-point attempts in the final minute of the first half that cut Cheyney’s lead to four (32-28) at halftime.
Tyrone Smith led all scorers with 21 points for the Wolves while Dominique Curry added 10. Cheyney shot just 3-for-20 from beyond the 3-point arc while West Chester scorched the nets at 7 of 13 shooting from that area (53.8 percent) on the night.
