Mansfield, Pa. – Sarah Oswald notched three assists as the ninth-ranked West Chester Golden Rams downed Mansfield, 3-0, for yet another important PSAC East win on a cool and cloudy Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (9-1-1, 7-1 PSAC East) continues to be white hot since losing at Bloomsburg on September 2. Mansfield (3-7-1, 1-6-1 PSAC East) continues to fall back in the standings.
Jessica Bennett opened the scoring in the 17th minute, heading the ball into the net on a perfect cross from Oswald. Jen Hutchinson picked up her fourth goal of the season in the 35th minute, heading in a corner kick from Oswald.
Oswald picked up her third assist of the match in the 48th minute, launching another great corner, which was finished by Tara Malkiewicz, putting the Golden Rams comfortably ahead 3-0. It marked the second straight game in which Oswald teamed up with Malkiewicz to score off a corner kick.
Defense was again the story for the Golden Rams, as Mansfield only mustered two shots, both in the first half. The West Chester defense has been stellar so far this season, allowing only two goals in 11 games played.
West Chester goal keeper Lyndsie Bernardini picked up her seventh shutout of the season. Bernardini ran her consecutive scoreless string to 503 minutes in the win.
WCU claimed the advantage on shots (17-2) and corner kicks (9-0).
The Golden Rams next return to the field on Tuesday at PSAC East opponent Shippensburg University.
