NEWARK, Del. – Five players scored in double figures, including Allison Hostetter who registered a double-double, to lead visiting West Chester to a 72-60 victory over host Goldey-Beacom College in a non-league women’s basketball game inside the Joseph West Jones Center Tuesday evening.
West Chester (4-0) increased its season-opening win streak to four straight while Goldey-Beacom (0-3) is still in search of its first victory of the season.
Hostetter scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Golden Rams in both categories. She also hauled in a career-high seven offensive boards in posting the first double-double of her career.
West Chester, which clung to a 27-24 lead at halftime, scored 45 points in the second half to put some distance between itself and the determined Lightning. The Golden Rams shot 50 percent in the final 20 minutes of play (15-for-30).
Mary Kate Serratelli poured in 13 points off the bench for West Chester. Renata Neal recorded 11 points while Megan Stewart and Jillian Keefer each totaled 10 points apiece. The Golden Rams scored 33 points off turnovers in the game.
Janae Weldon scored 12 points and Irene Hudson grabbed 10 rebounds to pace Goldey-Beacom.
Head coach Deirdre Kane notched win No. 399 of her 23-year career Tuesday night. Kane stands 16th on the all-time Division II women’s basketball coaching wins list. She will become the 16th member of the 400-win club when her Golden Rams are victorious again.
West Chester is off until next week when the Golden Rams travel to Philadelphia University for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
