WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Three Golden Rams players scored in double figures as the West Chester University women’s basketball team rolled to an 81-51 victory over Chestnut Hill College in the Carol Eckman Classic on Saturday afternoon inside Hollinger Field House.
The Golden Rams pushed their season-opening win streak to seven games, marking the first time since the 2000-01 campaign that West Chester has opened a year 7-0.
West Chester took control of the game from the opening tip and never looked back. The Golden Rams kept Chestnut Hill (2-6) on their heels with a smothering full-court press, limiting the Griffins to just 23 points on 10 of 22 shooting in the first half.
Guard Megan Stewart led all players with 13 points on 4 of 9 shooting, including a perfect 2-for-2 from beyond the 3-point arc. She added four rebounds and four assists in 26 minutes of play.
Janelle Garber (10 points 6 rebounds) and Jill Keefer (11 points 3 steals) were also in double-figures for the Golden Rams.
West Chester opened the game on an 11-2 run behind baskets by all five starters.
Chanta’l Hardy led the Griffins with 12 points and six rebounds, along with four assists. Davina Yacab recorded a game-high nine rebounds.
The Golden Rams shot 50 percent from the field in the game and 33 percent from 3-point range. Twenty-eight Chestnut Hill turnovers led to 25 Golden Rams’ points.
WCU had 15 steals, including five by Allison Hostetter.
West Chester’s next action comes this Friday as Clarion University comes to Hollinger Field House for a non-league matchup beginning at 5:30 p.m.
