West Chester Clinches Top Seed In PSAC Playoffs With 78-58 Win Over East Stroudsburg

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Dana Weems scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds as West Chester easily outdistanced visiting East Stroudsburg, 78-58, in the regular-season finale for each school Saturday afternoon.

The Senior Day victory clinched the first seed for the Golden Rams (19-8, 11-3 PSAC East) in the Eastern Division in the upcoming conference playoffs. Millersville defeated Mansfield on Saturday to claim a share of the regular-season title with West Chester.

West Chester will host arch-rival Cheyney on Tuesday, March 3 at 7 p.m. inside Hollinger Field House in the quarterfinals of the 2009 PSAC postseason tournament.

The game was tight in the first half, however, a short burst at the end of the stanza was a sign of things to come for the Golden Rams in the second half. West Chester went on a 9-4 run over the final 4:30 of the first half to build a 37-30 lead at halftime.

The Golden Rams shot out of the gate, eventually expanding their lead to 53-43 with 10:56 left to play. That run previewed a 24-9 outburst over the next 9:40 to build their commanding lead, which then stood at 77-52.

Mary Kate Serratelli helped out the Rams with 11 points and five rebounds, including going 3-for-4 from beyond the 3-point line. Megan Stewart gave West Chester a stellar performance, contributing 11 points, four assists and five steals.

Junior guard Bridget Carlin registered a career-high nine assists off the bench, marking the seventh-best single-game effort in West Chester history.

East Stroudsburg senior star, Jackie Yandrisevits, lead the Warriors (12-15, 5-9) with 22 points, six rebounds, and a blocked shot in her final college game. She finishes her career with 1,784 points.
