ERIE, Pa. – West Chester University was beaten in three matches against Edinboro and then dropped three of four to host Mercyhurst during the first day of the PSAC West Crossover held inside the Mercyhurst Athletic Center Friday.
West Chester (7-3) saw its six-game winning streak come to a close with a 25-20, 25-13, 25-20 defeat at the hands of Edinboro (9-4). The Golden Rams then dropped a hard-fought battle with the Lakers (10-3), eventually falling 27-25, 28-26, 23-25, 25-21. It marked the first losing streak of the season for West Chester, who previously lost to Philadelphia University in the second match of the season.
Lexi Kegerise and Brooke Foskey led the team with 13 kills apiece in the loss to Mercyhurst late Friday night. Helen Fitzpatrick registered 32 assists, and Lisa Campbell posted 23 digs. Morgan Litek recorded 11 digs as well in the loss.
Each of the first two sets went extra points in the Mercyhurst match. A few bounces differently, and the Golden Rams could have come out victorious.
However, Edinboro handled West Chester pretty well in the opener earlier in the afternoon. Foskey led the way again with four kills. Fitzpatrick collected eight assists and five digs. Campbell notched five digs as well to tie for the team lead in the match.
West Chester concludes the PSAC West Crossover tomorrow afternoon against Gannon.
