NEWARK, Del.
– Pat Devlin threw for 227 yards and two touchdowns to lead Delaware to a 35-0 victory over West Chester in front of a sold out crowd of 22,006 in an inter-divisional football contest at Tubby Raymond Field at Delaware Stadium Friday night.

West Chester (1-1), ranked 14th in the AFCA coaches’ poll, mustered just 176 yards of total offense and only five first downs through three quarters against the Division I FCS Blue Hens (1-0). The Golden Rams didn’t pick up their first first down of the night until the 4:10 mark of the second quarter. By then, Delaware had already opened up a 21-0 lead that it carried into the locker room at halftime.

The win moved Delaware’s win streak over West Chester in the overall series to 16 straight. The Blue Hens lead the series 44-6-2. It was the first time since 2000 that the Golden Rams were shut out.

Devlin, a Downingtown, Pa., native finished the day 12 of 15 before taking most of the second half off.

Third-string QB Scott Bradish saw the first playing time of his career and rushed for a team-high 39 yards on nine carries. D’Andre Webb finished with 27 yards on 11 carries as well.

Joe Wright saw his string of 14 straight games with a touchdown pass come to an end. He started the game and played the majority of the first three quarters, going 8-for-20 for 59 yards and an interception.

Jared Jorgensen played the fourth quarter and went 3-for-8 for 25 yards.

Corey Rhood posted a career-high eight tackles to pace West Chester's defensive effort. The Golden Rams' stop unit turned in an admirable performance, which included a goal line stand in the first half.

West Chester returns to John A. Farrell Stadium for its 2009 home opener next Saturday afternoon for a 12 p.m. kickoff against defending PSAC champion California (Pa.).
