WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Michelle Powers and Lexi Kegerise each posted 12 kills, and Helen Fitzpatrick dished out 30 assists, but visiting Lock Haven proved to be too much for homestanding West Chester University in a 3-0 PSAC women’s volleyball match inside Hollinger Field House Friday evening.
West Chester (19-10, 6-10 PSAC) fought through three tough matches, but could not overcome a determined Lock Haven (16-9, 10-6). There were 14 ties and eight lead changes in the three-game set. The Lady Eagles finally prevailed by scores of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-23.
The Golden Rams started slow in the first set, falling behind 7-1. However, a 13-4 run by West Chester put the hosts back in front, 14-11. Every time the Rams went on a run in the match, Lock Haven seemed to have an answer. All three sets were decided by a total of 12 points.
In the end, Lock Haven hit .298 for the match with all-leaguer Xuan Gao notching 16 kills and hitting .419. Alexa Garrity matched Fitzpatrick’s 30 assists.
Powers registered a .571 hitting percentage, not committing a single error. Though, Kegerise’s 12 kills came with nine errors. West Chester hit just .176 for the match.
Lisa Campbell registered 13 digs to lead the Golden Rams. Kyra Yost had nine. Julie Boblitz recorded two blocks.
West Chester returns to Hollinger Field House on Saturday for two matches. The Golden Rams will take on PSAC opponent East Stroudsburg at 2 p.m. and then play Bowie State later in the evening, after the Warriors battle the Bulldogs.
