WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Allison Hostetter scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Alex Lennon posted 13 points and nine rebounds to lead West Chester to an 83-40 victory over visiting Lincoln in the second game of the 25th annual Carol Eckman Memorial Classic inside Hollinger Field House Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (6-1) improved its winning streak to five games, winning its eighth straight Carol Eckman Memorial Classic contest in the process. Lincoln (0-5) is still in search of its first victory of the season.
The Golden Rams defense hounded the Lions into 23.2 percent shooting from the field (13 of 56) and 31 turnovers. Jillian Keefer registered a team-high four steals while Alex Lennon had three. All 13 active players got into the game for West Chester, which improved to 31-18 in the Carol Eckman Memorial Classic.
West Chester opened the tilt with a 20-7 run that put the hosts in control nearly eight minutes in. By halftime, the lead had bulged to 28 (49-21), and the Rams cruised the rest of the way.
West Chester scored 14 fast-break points with 12 of those coming in the first half in transition off turnovers. The Golden Rams' bench accounted for 34 of the team's 83 points on the day.
West Chester is back in action on day two of the 25th Annual Carol Eckman Memorial Classic with a 3 p.m. contest against Bowie State. Both West Chester and Bowie State are listed among others receiving votes in last week's coach's poll. The Bulldogs dropped a disappointing, 64-55 decision to Millersville in the first game Saturday afternoon. Bowie State led from the 13-minute mark of the first half until there was 4:27 left in the game.
