Phila U Downs West Chester, 1-0, in Double Overtime

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Ryan Purnell scored 2:38 into the second overtime period, lifting host Philadelphia University to a 1-0 victory over visiting West Chester in a non-league men's soccer match Tuesday afternoon.

West Chester (2-3) dropped its third straight contest by the score of 1-0 while Philadelphia University improved to 2-1 overall.

Purnell beat Golden Rams goalkeeper Kevin Marron in the second OT off an assist from Travis Lobb. Marron, who made five saves, played the final 35 minutes of the contest, relieving Garrett Bleiler, who began the second half and played a total of 23 minutes without recording a save. Peter Weiss started and played the first half, registering six saves. 

Alex Heston went the distance in goal for Philadelphia University, making seven saves.

West Chester returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 22 when it hosts PSAC rival East Stroudsburg at 2 p.m.
