No. 5 West Chester Sneaks Past No. 15 Kutztown, 1-0

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa.
- Jen Gangl's header off a corner kick in the 62nd minute was all No. 5 West Chester needed to supass No. 15 Kutztown in a PSAC women's showdown between two of the heavy weights in this year's conference.

West Chester (5-0-0, 3-0-0 PSAC) remained unbeaten and unscored upon in the new year while Kutztown (4-1-0, 2-1-0) dropped its first contest of the season. Golden Rams' sophomore goalkeeper Lyndsie Bernardini earned her fourth shutout of the season and 19th of her career. She is now third all-time on the school list in that category.

Gangl, who notched both goals in a 2-0 win over Slippery Rock on Saturday, headed in her third goal of the season off a corner kick from Oswald. The sophomore midfielder got just enough of her head on the cross to direct the ball past a diving Alyssa Hackelberg and into the far post.

The win gives West Chester the upper edge in the team standings early on in the season. Both schools entered the day tied for first place with two league wins and six points. The Golden Rams, at 3-0, now have nine points in PSAC play.

Oswald's assist was the 26th of her career, leaving her three behind Heather Allgyer's career record of 29 helpers between 1996-99. She has 114 career points.

Hackelberg made seven saves in a losing effort for Kutztown. Bernardini did not record a save. West Chester outshot Kutztown by an 8-2 margin.
