N.Y. Tech Tops West Chester Men's Soccer, 1-0

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa.
- Visiting New York Institute of Technology scored in the second minute of the game and then made that tally stand up en route to a 1-0 shutout over West Chester University in a 1-0 men's soccer match at South Campus Fields Wednesday night.

West Chester (2-6-0) dropped its sixth straight game and fifth one-goal affair after being shutout for the fifth time this fall. New York Tech (2-5-1) ended a three-game losing streak after entering winless in its last four.

The Bears' Matthew DiDonna took advantage of West Chester goalkeeper's indecision on a 50-50 ball just inside the penalty area to stake NYIT to the early lead. DiDonna beat Garrett Bleiler to the ball and kicked it up over the on-rushing keeper and into an empty net, giving NY Tech a 1-0 advantage it would not relinquish. It was DiDonn'a second goal of the season and came off an assist from Mohammed Habibzi.

The Golden Rams hung in with the Bears, working out a few scoring opportunities of their own. However, the hosts could not finish. Freshman Conor Malarney went in on a breakaway in the second half, but was run down from behind. That opportunity resulted in a corner kick, but the Rams could not convert.

West Chester took seven corner kicks on the afternoon, but could not turn any into a scoring opportunity.

NY Tech outshot West Chester, 9-6, in a game that was primarily played in the midfield.
