WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Conor Malarney scored a pair of goals in his first college game to lead host West Chester to a 5 - 1 victory over Goldey-Beacom College on the first day of the season-opening WCU Tournament inside Farrell Stadium Saturday evening.
West Chester scored five goals, two in the first half, and three in the second half to put the game out of reach from Goldey-Beacom. The Golden Rams received goals from Kyle Miller, Ricky Williamson and Kevin MacCann in addition to Malarney’s pair of tallies. Goals were assisted by Josh Labik, Peter Mais and Brett Snyder.
Ricky Williamson’s goal came during the 85th minute on a penalty kick. The Golden Rams received a strong effort from goalkeeper Peter Weiss, who recorded three saves.
Goldey-Beacom’s lone goal was scored by Andre Jank in the 42nd minute and assisted by Mike Sager. Goalkeeper Ignacio Farias played very well, recording five saves for the game.
The Lightning will look to rebound tomorrow afternoon with their game against Wilmington in the Consolation match of the WCU tournament.
In the opening round game of the tournament, Mercy defeated Wilmington, 3-0.
West Chester will play Mercy tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. in Farrell Stadium for the championship.
