Box Score Box Score

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Host Philadelphia University put five players in double figures in a 71-59 non-league men’s basketball victory over visiting West Chester inside the Gallagher Center Tuesday evening.

Nick Schiltzer led five Rams in double figures with 23 points while Nick Christian added 16 for PhilaU (1-1). Jon Breeden scored 19 points for the Golden Rams (1-1), but it was not enough to overcome the hosts’ effort.

Philadelphia University went an outstanding 21 of 26 from the free throw line while limiting West Chester to just 10 opportunities from the charity stripe. The Rams also blocked 11 shots in the contest as well.

PhilaU went on an 11-4 run in the first four minutes of the second half to break a 32-all tie coming out of the locker room. West Chester would eventually tie the game at 45 apiece on a 3-pointer from Breeden with under 14 minutes to play. However, the visitors never could wrestle the lead away from the home team after halftime.

The host Rams went on a 19-9 spurt following that 3-ball from Breeden and opened up a 10-point lead with just under two minutes to play. West Chester would never be closer than six the rest of the way.

Khalif Foster scored eight points and grabbed 11 rebounds for West Chester. Lance McDowell and Corey Blake each added eight points as well.

West Chester opens its home slate on Saturday afternoon with a 3 p.m. contest against Slippery Rock in a crossover match with the Western Division foe, which will count in the league standings for the first time this winter. The Golden Rams then host Mercyhurst on Sunday.
