WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Gannon’s Caitlyn Lowe drained a 3-pointer with :0.5 seconds left on the game clock, lifting the Golden Knights to a 66-64 victory over host West Chester in a PSAC women’s basketball contest inside Hollinger Field House Saturday afternoon.
Lowe also knocked down a 3-ball with 1:07 left that answered a three from West Chester’s Jillian Keefer and tied things up at 62 apiece. Her timely buckets from downtown kept Gannon (5-0, 4-0 PSAC) undefeated on the season while West Chester (5-1, 3-1) saw its five-game win streak to open the campaign come to a close.
West Chester trailed for much of the contest when a 14-3 run capped by a jumper from Allison Hostetter with three minutes remaining gave the hosts the lead at 57-56. The Knights tied it on a foul shot from Jennifer Papich, but Meghan Kerrigan answered with a layup to put the Rams back on top, 59-57 with 2:25 left. Papich nailed a pair of free throws to knot things up once again, before Keefer connected on her 3-pointer with 1:27 remaining.
Papich finished with a game-high 26 points, including 8-for-12 from the free throw line. Lowe’s two 3-pointers late were her only two on the afternoon. She finished with eight points.
Hostetter finished with 16 points, nine rebounds and six assists, missing a double-double by one rebound. Alex Lennon chipped in eight points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots. Keefer contributed 10 points for the Golden Rams.
West Chester travels out west next weekend for a pair of PSAC tilts against Edinboro on Friday, Dec. 9 and Lock Haven on Dec. 10.
