East Stroudsburg Men Hold Off West Chester, 78-72

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – West Chester made a valiant comeback bid in the second half, but host East Stroudsburg held off the visitors, 78-72, in a PSAC East men’s basketball showdown inside Koehler Field House Saturday afternoon.

West Chester (12-10, 3-7 PSAC East) dropped both its games to East Stroudsburg (12-10, 5-5), who ran its personal win streak over the Rams to four straight.

Khalif Foster hit one of two free throws with 1:16 left in the contest to tie things up at 70. ESU’s Micah Covert knocked down a 16-foot jumper at the top of the key with :45 left to give the Warriors the lead for good. Mike Tobin made four foul shots down the stretch to keep West Chester at bay.

The Golden Rams went cold from the field in the second half as the Warriors quickly opened up a 48-33 advantage five minutes in. West Chester had shot 44 percent (11 of 25) from the field in the first half. However, East Stroudsburg went on a 14-4 run to open up a comfortable cushion, before the Rams started their comeback.

West Chester clawed its way back into the tilt, chipping away at the 15-point deficit, until a pair of free throws from Kehinde Roberts with just over five minutes remaining knotted the score at 63-apiece. The Rams held the Warriors without a field goal for nearly nine minutes in the second half as the visitors mounted their comeback.

Kehinde Roberts and Jaleel Mack led West Chester with 14 points each while Lance McDowell had 11.

West Chester will be back in action Wednesday evening when it hosts Shippensburg University at Hollinger Field House at 8 p.m.
