EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Megan Stewart scored 20 points, and Alex Lennon posted a double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds) while setting the school record for blocked shots in a single-season as visiting West Chester topped host East Stroudsburg, 71-58, Saturday afternoon inside Kohler Field House.
West Chester (17-5, 8-2 PSAC East) won its ninth consecutive game against East Stroudsburg (5-17, 2-8) and completed the season sweep over the Warriors. The Golden Rams kept pace in the Eastern Division standings with leader Bloomsburg and Millersville, with whom West Chester is tied for second. Both the Huskies and Marauders were winners on Saturday.
Lennon broke the school’s single-season record for blocked shots by halftime, sending back three Warrior attempts. She now has 70 blocks on the season. Gina Tophoney held the previous mark of 67 during the 1996-97 campaign.
West Chester’s full-court pressure got to East Stroudsburg in the second half as the Rams went on a 19-6 run in the first 6:15 to open up a 20-point lead (51-31) and never look back. West Chester never did trail in the contest.
Allison Hostetter (19 points) sparked the decisive run with nine of the 19 points in the spurt. Stewart contributed six and Lennon four as those three accounted for all of the scoring.
The Golden Rams forced 24 turnovers defensively and came up with nine steals in the second half to pull away from a determined Warriors squad.
West Chester will be back in action Wednesday evening when it hosts Shippensburg University at Hollinger Field House at 6 p.m.
