West Chester Women's Basketball Dispatches Shippensburg, 84-67

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Mary Kate Serratelli led five players in double figures as host West Chester University defeated visiting Shippensburg, 84-67, in a PSAC East women’s basketball contest inside Hollinger Field House Wednesday night.

West Chester (18-5, 9-2 PSAC East) won its fifth straight game to stay even with Millersville in the league standings and one game back of division-leading Bloomsburg, who both were victorious Wednesday. Shippensburg (10-13, 5-6) fell out of a tie for fourth place and into fifth place with the loss.

Megan Stewart added 14 points and nine assists while Jillian Keefer contributed 13 points. Alex Lennon and Carly Strickland each added 10 points. Lennon blocked four shots and grabbed nine boards.

Shippensburg was led by Shawna Wert’s 21 points. She went 14 of 15 from the foul line in the game. Kasey Gardner scored 17 points and grabbed nine boards.

The Golden Rams, who led 34-25 at the break, shot a blistering 66.7 percent from the field in the second half (22 of 33) and outrebounded the Raiders by a wide 48-32 margin.

West Chester hosts Millersville on Saturday in a battle for second place in the league standings. Saturday will be the Golden Rams’ annual Pink Zone contest. There will be plenty of opportunities for fans to donate to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund while entering to win a bunch of excellent prizes.

The Pink Zone opens one hour before tip-off at 12 noon. West Chester and Millersville will go at it beginning at 1 p.m.
