BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – West Chester’s men’s tennis squad received a stellar performance from its doubles teams en route to an 8-1 victory over host Bloomfield College on a gorgeous Friday afternoon.
West Chester (3-7) ended a personal six-match losing streak dating back to the fall campaign. The Golden Rams swept the doubles competition in impressive fashion, 8-2, 8-3, 8-0, respectively.
“I think I found my doubles pairings,” head coach Tina Tharp said. “Everyone played really well today.”
Nate Geigle and Steve Hlava were the one-doubles pairing that was an 8-2 winner. Alan Day and David Goldenberg teamed up at second doubles for an 8-3 win while Matt Thomas and J.J. Cooke, who have been playing together for much of the season, swept their opponents, 8-0 at No. 3.
The Golden Rams were straight-set winners at 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 singles. Goldenberg, Hlava and Jimmy Aridas were each 6-0, 6-0 winners at third, fourth and fifth singles. Geigle had little trouble with his opponent at first singles, taking a 6-1, 6-1 victory for the Rams.
West Chester returns home on Monday when it welcomes Cabrini to South Campus for a 4 p.m. match.
