EDINBORO, Pa. - J.J. Cooke picked up a win at fourth singles in his first college singles match, and Alan Day clinched the win at fifth singles as visiting West Chester cruised to an 8-1 win in a PSAC crossover men's tennis match Sunday morning.
West Chester (4-10) split its weekend crossover series, after losing to Mercyhurst Saturday night. The Golden Rams also halted a three-game losing streak in the process.
Steve Hlava moved up to first singles in place of injured Nate Geigle and earned a 6-3, 6-1 win - his first at the No. 1 spot for the Rams since transferring into the program. Michael Sim was a 6-4, 6-0 winner at third singles while Cooke wrapped up a 6-3, 6-0 win at fourth singles. Day was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at fifth singles, and West Chester registered a forfeit win at sixth singles.
Connor Dunn and Hlava teamed up for an 8-1 win at first doubles while Day and David Goldenberg were an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles. West Chester collected another forfeit win at third doubles.
West Chester will test its mettle in the PSAC East this week when the Golden Rams host East Stroudsburg on South Campus at 2 p.m.
