WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Julie Boblits recorded 16 kills and Helen Fitzpatrick notched 19 assists as host West Chester swept visiting Shippensburg, 3-0, in a PSAC volleyball match inside Hollinger Field House Friday evening.
West Chester (10-6, 2-3 PSAC) hit .340 as a team and ended a personal six-match losing streak to Shippensburg (3-10, 0-4), who has now lost six of its last seven. The Raiders mustered just a .183 hitting percentage, creating nine hitting errors in both the second and third sets. West Chester took all three sets by scores of 25-20, 25-15 and 25-21.
Boblits knocked down 16 of her 36 attempts for a .333 percentage on the night. Lexi Kegerise, fresh off her career-high 30-kill performance against Holy Family, posted nine kills and a .368 hitting percentage.
Defensively, the Golden Rams registered seven blocks and 29 digs as a team. Playing without senior all-league libero Lisa Campbell, West Chester put up a stellar defensive effort. Mary Faust recorded nine digs to lead the team individually.
Ironically, Shippensburg was without their all-league libero Lauren Murphy as well. Tessa Bivens, her replacement, had 11 digs. Andrea Heimsoth posted 33 assists, and Jill Edwards had 17 kills to lead the Raiders.
West Chester jumped out on Shippensburg early, knocking down 17 kills in the first set against just three hitting errors for a .378 percentage. However, the Golden Rams were even better in set two, hitting .407. Kelly Martin recorded six kills and netted three service aces.
Martin served up six straight points early in game two that turned a 2-2 tie into a 6-2 advantage. Then, came back with eight straight service points later in the match that moved the margin from 13-10 to 20-11.
West Chester returns to Hollinger Field House on Saturday afternoon with another PSAC East showdown with Millersville University. Match time is 2 p.m.
