WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester University’s men’s swimming & diving teams dropped a non-league meet to visiting University of Pennsylvania Friday, 175-120, in the final home meet of the 2011-12 regular-season inside Graham Natatorium.
West Chester (3-4) performed well in its final tune-up before the PSAC Championships next month, taking first place in five events. Jared Haley was a double winner in the 500-yard freestyle and the 1000 free while Bogdan Grebenyuk set a school dual-meet record in the 100 breaststroke.
Haley touched the wall first in the 1000 free with a time of 9 minutes, 41.32 seconds while taking the top spot in the 500 free as well (4:41.64). He was the lone double-winner on the evening against Division I Ivy League power Penn. Grebenyuk’s time of 57.52 in the 100 breaststroke was good for second place. However, it also set a new dual-meet record at the school. Meanwhile, his time of 2:06.61 in the 200 breaststroke was also second, but also marked the second-fastest time in a dual meet at the school as well.
David McCormick won the 200 individual medley in a time of 1:57.86. Teammates Mike DiMarco and Evan DeaKyne followed McCormick to the finish line with times of 2:09.08 and 2:10.27, respectively.
Tommy Rhoads won the 200 free and was also a member of the 200 free relay which took top honors. Rhoads clocked a time of 1:43.61 in the 200 free. He then teamed with Alex Muraro, Ryan Stahley and Phil Letcavage to win the 200 free relay in a time of 1:26.21.
On the diving boards in Hollinger Field House, Ryan Kuser placed runner-up in both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard competition. Kuser scored a 310.65 on the 1m board while posting a score of 323.33 in the 3m competition.
West Chester’s swimmers will be off until the conference championships, which begin on Feb. 16. The divers will be back in action on Feb. 4 at Delaware.
