ERIE, Pa. – West Chester University’s women’s volleyball squad dropped a pair of matches at the Hammermill Center in Erie Saturday afternoon, falling to Mercyhurst, 3-1, in the morning and Gannon, 3-0, in the afternoon.
The Golden Rams (11-12, 2-7 PSAC) dropped its match to Mercyhurst by scores of 14-25, 26-24, 19-25 and 23-25. In the afternoon, Gannon won in straight sets 25-20, 25-17 and 25-13.
Lexi Kegerise led the Golden Rams against Mercyhurst with a great performance, contributing 14 kills and 15 digs. After a rough first set falling 25-14, the Golden Rams battled for a second set win 26-24. However, the Lakers were able to take the next two sets and get out of the Hammermill Center with a win.
Mercyhurst’s duo of Becky Leusch (15kills) and Becky Smith (13 kills) was too much for West Chester to handle. Julia O’Brien and Cara Reese contributed eight and six kills, respectively, for the Golden Rams. Setter Tori Hutchinson threw in 12 assists and 12 digs, and Dana Markol was all of the floor with a team-leading 21 digs for the Golden Rams.
Reese led the Golden Rams with eight kills in the nightcap against Gannon. Kegerise posted six kills and O’Brien had four. Hutchinson dished out another 12 assists and added five digs.
Gannon used a balanced attack dropping 45 kills to West Chester’s 28 in the match.
Next up, the Golden Rams travel to Kutztown this Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. for a PSAC East matchup.
