West Chester Drops Tight Match With Shippensburg, 3-1

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – In a preview of what will be a quarterfinal round matchup in next week’s PSAC Tournament, West Chester University’s women’s volleyball squad dropped a 3-1 decision to visiting Shippensburg Saturday afternoon.
 
West Chester (18-16, 8-11 PSAC) fell by scores of 25-21, 24-26, 25-20, 25-19 to Shippensburg (26-10, 14-5). The first three sets of the match saw 21 ties, but just four lead changes. The Raiders seemed to bend, but not break through those first three sets.
 
Lexi Kegerise registered her 1,300th career kill in posting a team-high 15 kills for the match. She stands fourth on the school’s all-time chart in that category. Both Marina Sharkey and Allison Grammer had nine kills each. Julia O’Brien had eight kills. Dana Markol had 14 digs while Kegerise had 11.
 
Tori Hutchinson and Mandy Flynn each recorded better than 20 assists for the second straight match. Hutchinson finished with 24 while Flynn had 21.
 
The Golden Rams enter the 2012 PSAC postseason tournament on Tuesday evening. They travel to Shippensburg for a quarterfinal round match at 7 p.m. at Heigis Fieldhouse.
