No. 12 West Chester Shuts Out Mansfield, 4-0

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Marie D’Angelo scored a goal and had two assists to lead host West Chester to a 4-0 victory over visiting Mansfield Friday afternoon on South Campus in a PSAC women’s soccer contest.
 
West Chester (5-0, 2-0 PSAC), ranked 12th in the latest NSCAA national poll, remains unbeaten on the year while Mansfield (1-2-1, 0-1-1) suffered its first conference defeat of the year. The Golden Rams opened things up with three goals in the second half.
 
All three second-half goals came in a 12-minute span and pushed the outcome out of reach. Ashley Saylor scored her team-leading fifth goal of the year in the 55th minute. Then Brianna Hires and Cora Littlejohns scored 88 seconds apart to extend the lead to 4-0.
 
D’Angelo’s second goal of the year put West Chester on the board six minutes into the contest. She then assisted on Hires’ and Littlejohns’ markers in the second half.
 
Shannon Fedyk (5-0) went the distance in goal for West Chester, recording her fourth shutout of the season and 13th in her young career. Alexis Wilhelm (1-2-1) stopped 10 shots for Mansfield. West Chester held a 16-5 advantage in shots and a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
 
The Golden Rams have outscored their opponents 12-0 in the second half through five games this fall.
 
West Chester welcomes Edinboro to South Campus on Saturday afternoon for a showdown between two teams tied for first place in the early going in the PSAC.
