Golden Rams Drop Pair Of Crossover Matches In PSAC Opener

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester University dropped a pair of PSAC volleyball matches at home to Slippery Rock and Clarion by identical scores of 3-0 Friday evening.
 
West Chester (9-7, 0-2 PSAC) never got going in the opener against Slippery Rock (8-4, 1-0), falling by scores of 25-21, 25-18 and 25-17. The Golden Rams then dropped all three matches to Clarion (10-3, 1-0) by scores of 25-14, 25-19, 25-20.
 
West Chester was led by Lexi Kegerise’s nine kills. However, the Golden Rams mustered just an .088 hitting percentage while The Rock recorded 11 blocks in the win. Mary Faust and Mandy Flynn each recorded 10 assists.
 
In the third set, West Chester held a 6-3 lead early. That is when Slippery Rock scored two points for every one of WCU’s over the next 24 points to take a 19-14 lead late and close out the match in three sets. The Golden Rams hit just .033 in that third set.
 
In the nightcap, Clarion proved to be too strong, winning in three sets. However, West Chester played the third set tight and looked as though they might push the match to a fourth set.
 
Julia O’Brien posted seven kills while Kegerise added another six. West Chester’s hitting percentage was below .200 once again and nobody recorded double digits in kills. Mandy Flynn notched 14 assists while Mary Foust had 11. Morgan Litak had 10 digs.
 
West Chester completes the weekend crossover on Saturday hosting California (Pa.) and Indiana (Pa.) at Hollinger Field House. The Vulcans and Rams play at 12 p.m. while the Crimson Hawks and Rams take the court at 3 p.m.
