WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University's women's volleyball squad swept past visiting East Stroudsburg, 3-0, in a PSAC East showdown inside Hollinger Field House Friday night.
West Chester (10-9, 1-4 PSAC) put an end to its personal four-match losing streak while pushing the Golden Rams' win streak over East Stroudsburg (6-6, 3-2) to 11 matches dating back to 2006.
Lexi Kegerise led the way offensively with 10 kills. Julia O'Brien added eight kills. Mary Faust notched 18 assists while Tori Hutchinson had another nine. Hutchinson and Dana Markol led the way with eight digs apiece.
West Chester fell behind quickly in set one, 3-0. However, rebounded with a 22-3 run to take a 22-6 lead. In fact, all three sets were defined by large runs from the Golden Rams that enabled the hosts to gain control of each set. Markol served seven straight points during the first set while Kegerise strung together eight straight points.
In the second set, the Rams fell behind once again, 7-4. However, Hutchinson served up seven straight points again, and West Chester opened up an 11-7 lead it would not relinquish. ESU got within one on two separate occasions, drawing to 13-12. But, the Rams answered with five straight points to jump back in front, 18-12.
The third set balanced back-and-forth for much of the duration. However, West Chester went on a 5-1 mini-run with the score 13-12 in its favor to open up an 18-13 lead that it never surrendered.
The Golden Rams hit .307 for the match, including .423 in the opening set. Meanwhile East Stroudsburg made 27 hitting errors and another 10 service errors in the loss. Kaitlin Behrens registered 11 kills for the Warriors.
West Chester battles Lock Haven Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in another PSAC East matchup.
