SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Host Shepherd University scored in the 61st minute and made that tally stand up as West Chester University's men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision on the road Tuesday evening.
West Chester dropped its season opener on the road. However, the Golden Rams outshot the Rams and had two more corner kick opportunities. Shepherd's Shane Lowery got the lone tally of the contest midway through the second half, and the hosts did not let their counterparts get the equalizer after that.
Garrett Bleiler (0-1) got the start in goal and played the first 70 minutes, making three saves and allowing the lone goal. Kevin Marron went the rest of the way, recording one save.
West Chester hosts Wheeling Jesuit in its home opener on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. on South Campus. The women will play Wheeling Jesuit at 11 a.m. before the men take the field.
