BROOKFIELD, Ill. — Junior RB Rondell White and sophomore MLB Ronell Williams were each named to the first team Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-Super Region 1 squad it was announced Tuesday.
The first-team and second-team all-region selections advance to the national ballot from which the 2012 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America team will be named later this month.
Williams, who has already been named a first team All-American by two separate voting bodies, collected his fifth postseason accolade. He was also named first team All-Super Region 1 by the sports information directors in November while picking up AP’s Little All-America and AFCA All-America honors. The Golden Rams’ middle linebacker led the PSAC in tackles with 119 stops and was named first team All PSAC East as a result. He ranked 11th in Division II in tackles, and his three interceptions ranked fourth in the country among linebackers at the Division II level. Williams registered seven tackles for a loss, forced a fumble, broke up one pass, was credited with a QB hurry and posted 1.5 sacks on the year as well.
White, who set the school record for rushing yards in a single season, was named to the first team as an all-purpose player. White is the first West Chester player to be recognized as an all-purpose selection to the team. White led all of Division II in all-purpose yards per game, averaging 200.18 all-purpose yards per contest. He is one of only two players in Division II and nine at any level in the country to average 200 all-purpose yards per game. His 2,202 all-purpose yards in 11 games ranks third all-time in a single season at West Chester University. He is currently fifth on the school’s all-time career all-purpose yards chart with 4,561 to his credit after three seasons. White also ranked sixth in the nation and second in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in rushing, averaging 140.73 yards on the ground per game. He was second only to Bloomsburg’s Franklyn Quiteh, who led the nation in rushing. White tied for eighth nationally in scoring, averaging 9.8 points per game. That was also good for second in the PSAC behind Quiteh.
Super Region 1 is compiled of universities from four conferences including the PSAC, WVIAC, NE10 and the CIAA. A total of 38 teams and 129 players are represented on this team.
The Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published Don Hansen’s National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988. Don Hansen’s Football Gazette began selecting Division II All-Region squads in 2003.
