Golden Rams Defeat Goldey-Beacom 5-0 in the Rain

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Sr., Josh Labik scored his first goal of the season, and freshman Brett Beaumont added another before the half was over, as West Chester pulled away in the second half for a 5-0 non-conference men's soccer win over Goldey-Beacom on a cold and rainy Thursday afternoon on South Campus Field.

The Golden Rams who improved to 5-3-2 on the season were aided by two Miguel Ross goals after halftime. Goldey-Beacom (2-9-1) had several quality first-half opportunities, but was not able to put one past Phil Horan, who collected his first victory in the West Chester net.

The wide open affair finally saw its first goal in the 39th minute when Labik took a John Gabel pass just inside the box on the right and deftly dribbled to the center and left-footed the ball into the corner past the diving goalkeeper.

Beaumont doubled the advantage just two and half minutes later, finishing with a shot to the far side, after the rookie was set up by a David Green feed to give the Golden Rams a 2-0 lead at the half.

Ross scored this first of the day off an excellent lead pass by Roberto Silva that sent the speedy freshman in on the keeper for this third of the year in the 57th minute.

West Chester added a fourth quickly when a corner kick bounced off a Goldey-Beacom defender and into the net just over a minute later.

Ross finished the scoring with under a minute to go with a header off a cross from Green for his fourth of the campaign.

Horan kept the game scoreless with two sliding saves midway through the first when he made five of his six stops en route to his first career victory and shutout. Goldey-Beacom keeper Carlos Meinhard turned away five shots on goal.

West Chester gets back into conference play on Saturday with a 4:30 p.m. start in Millersville.
