Caplan and McCann Strike in the Second Half in 2-0 win at Pitt-Johnstown

Box Score

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Alex Caplan and Kevin McCann each notched their first goals of the year in the second half to lead West Chester University to a 2-0 PSAC men's soccer victory over University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Wednesday afternoon.

The Golden Rams' (7-3-2, 6-1-1 PSAC) win allows them to keep pace with first-place Mercyhurst (10-3, 7-1 PSAC), who was a 4-0 winner over California (Pa.) on Wednesday. Pitt-Johnstown (2-11, 0-7) the newcomer to the PSAC this fall, is still seeking its first conference victory.

After a scoreless first half, West Chester struck early in the second, when Roberto Silva sent Alex Caplan in on goal in the 48th minute. The sophomore beat the goalkeeper for his first of the season to give the Golden Rams a 1-0 lead.

Senior Kevin McCann added an insurance marker when his blast from the top of the box found the back of the net in the 54th minute for his first this year.

Ryan Shultz made three saves in recording his, and West Chester's, fifth straight conference shutout, extending the current streak to over 500 minutes in conference play. Tim Ofman made five saves in goal for UPJ.

The Golden Rams are home on Saturday, for Senior Day when they take on, the other PSAC newcomer, Seton Hill at 12 p.m. on South Campus Field. Senior Day festivities will take place at halftime.
