Shultz Sets Shutout Record In Golden Rams 2-0 Victory Over Seton HIll on Senior Day

Box Score
WEST CHESTER, Pa.- Saturday was Senior Day for men's soccer at West Chester University, but the day also belonged to a record breaking sophomore. Goalkeeper Ryan Shultz picked up his seventh shutout, setting a new single season West Chester record in the Golden Rams 2-0 PSAC victory over Seton Hill.

The victory allowed West Chester (8-3-2, 7-1-1 PSAC) to keep pace with front running Mercyhurst, staying two points behind the league leaders. Seton Hill (9-4-1, 4-3-1 PSAC) had the best chance to score in the first half, but Shultz made a diving stop midway through.

West Chester's three seniors, Josh Labik, plus captain's Kevin McCann and Conor Malarney were honored at halftime. The ceremony seemed to give the Rams a boost after a tightly played first half.

Malarney opened the scoring, when he fought off the Seton Hill defense to corral a long ball from Tommy Ryan. Once he gained control, the striker netted his career best ninth goal of the season, sliding it past the keeper into the open net, just past the hour mark.

McCann and Malarney, almost combined to give the Golden Rams a 2-0 lead, but McCann's shot was blocked on the way to the open corner.

Miguel Ross gave West Chester some breathing room in the 70th minute scoring his fifth of year after picking up a loose ball near midfield, and weaving his way through defenders to create the opportunity.

Shultz had to make several difficult saves, en route to his historic shutout, and sixth straight PSAC clean sheet. He stopped six Seton Hill shots on the day, in extending the Golden Rams streak of not surrendering a goal in a conference game to over 600 minutes. Jordan Sodhi made four saves in goal for the Griffins.

West Chester is home on Tuesday for a non-league game with Philadelphia University at 3 p.m. There will a dedication ceremony to name the field, before the game, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
