WEST CHESTER, Pa.
- West Chester University's men's tennis squad defeated visiting Philadelphia University, 6-1, in a non-league match on South Campus Thursday night. Second and fourth singles were suspended due to darkness.

West Chester (2-1) swept the doubles competition and picked up wins at third, fifth and sixth singles to carry the match.

Jared Howat and Cody Leimback were winners at first doubles, 8-3, while Connor Dunn and Chaz Irwin were winners at second doubles (8-2), and Andrew Peterson and Lars Kristiansen were winners at third singles, 9-7.

Irwin's win at third singles was the match-clincher. He topped his opponent, 6-1, 6-2 for the victory. Peterson picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win at fifth singles while J.J. Cooke managed a 6-3, 6-2 win at sixth singles.

"It was another strong match for the men," WCU head coach Tina Tharp said. "Third doubles came from behind (4-7) for their win, and Chaz (Irwin) changed something in his game and is working hard. His result is testament to that work."

West Chester is off until Oct. 11 when the Golden Rams host Chestnut Hill at 2 p.m.
