Volleyball Falls In Five Sets To First-Place Shippensburg, 3-2

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester University extended visiting Shippensburg to the brink Saturday afternoon inside Hollinger Field House, but the Raiders held on for a 3-2 PSAC East women's volleyball victory over the Golden Rams.

West Chester (13-15, 5-12 PSAC East) dropped its third straight match while Shippensburg (22-7, 14-3) notched its second win in as many days. The Raiders took the match by scores of 25-18, 7-25, 25-13, 13-25 and 15-11. The right side of the court proved to be where the money was as Shippensburg won sets 1, 3 and closed out set 5 on the right side.

Julia O'Brien finished with 16 kills while Allison Grammer posted 12. The Golden Rams hit a respectable .156 for the match, including .400 and .391 when the Rams occupied the bench to the right of the scorer's table. Tori Hutchinson notched 16 assists while Mandy Flynn dished out 12 to pace the Golden Rams' offensive hitting. Callie Krajcir posted 15 digs, and Tyler Shaefer notched 11 for West Chester, defensively.

O'Brien added six blocks, and Samantha Agostini had four.

West Chester returns to Hollinger Field House on Tuesday, Nov. 5 for a mid-week tussle with cross-county rival Cheyney at 7 p.m.
