LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – Eddie Mitchell scored 18 points and R.J. Griffin posted 14, but visiting West Chester University could not hold on down the stretch as host Lincoln University defeated the Golden Rams, 69-60, in the season opener at Manuel Rivero Hall Saturday evening.

West Chester held a 10-point lead with 11 minutes left. However, Lincoln went on a 13-3 run over the next four minutes to draw even with 6:39 to go. From there, the Lions outscored the Golden Rams by a 30-11 margin thanks in part to making 6 of 7 free throws down the stretch that kept West Chester at bay.

Mitchell was 12-for-14 from the charity stripe, hitting three of his five shots from the field. He and Griffin accounted for a little more than half of the Rams' points on the night. Cory Blake added 13 points.

Lincoln scored 46 points after halftime, shooting 53.8 percent from the field in the process. The Lions were an additional 14-for-18 from the foul line after the break as well.

The Golden Rams continue their road swing to open the year on Wednesday at Chestnut Hill College with a 7 p.m. tipoff.
