Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Cody Leimback and Ryan Learn picked up a win at third doubles, and Andrew Peterson was a winner at fifth singles, but that was all host West Chester could muster in a 7-2 loss to visiting University of the Sciences in the 2013-14 dual match opener for both schools Thursday afternoon on South Campus.

West Chester (0-1) sent individuals to the PSAC Individual Championships last weekend. However, this was the first match of the season for the team as a whole.

Leimback and Learn were 8-5 winners at third doubles. West Chester's No. 1 duo of Chaz Irwin and Connor Dunn came close, eventually falling by a 9-7 score. Dunn fought hard at No. 1 singles, before succumbing to his opponent in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. Irwin dropped a 6-3, 6-0 decision at No. 2 singles as well.

Pat McGinley extended his match at fourth singles to a decisive third set, which was played with tie-breaker rules. He eventually fell, 7-5 in that third and deciding set.

Andrew Peterson picked up West Chester's only other win at fifth singles. He was a 6-4, 6-4 winner in straight sets.

The Golden Rams will be back in action on Sept. 27 against St. Thomas Aquinas at 2 p.m.
